Hawaiian nature
In Hawaii you can find white beaches, an overwhelmingly beautiful rainforest and pitch-black moon landscapes. A trip to Hawaii is a trip to a nature paradise. We probably won’t have to convince anybody about the exceptional beauty of the nature in Hawaii. The Island group is one of the prettiest of the world. The Hawaiian nature also has a couple of surprises, like black and green beaches. The plants and trees that grow here are also something different, for instance the famous rainbow tree that grows on Maui. The official name of this tree is the Eucalyptus Deglupta. This tree regularly lets go of her bark which reveals the green resin on the inside of the tree. The resin changes colour, which shows you a colour transition and explains where it got its name.
Hawaii doesn’t know many different animal species, although there are a lot of different types of birds on the island and a lot of sea animals in the ocean. These sea animals include dolphins and whales. Many people think Hawaii is one of the prettiest islands in the world. The most popular leisure activities are surfing, snorkelling and diving, not only for the tourists but also for the locals. Out of the over 130 volcanic islands 6 are open for tourism. For the real nature enthusiast, the most beautiful islands are Kauai and Maui. Although the other islands are also amazing and special. Which island should you visit during your stay? We will give you an overview of the various nature on the different islands and take you on a journey to the most beautiful places. What is the most beautiful island of Hawaii?
Big Island
This is the largest island of Hawaii. Hawaii Island has the same name as the island group and is therefore often referred to as Big Island instead. On this island you will be able to find two active volcanos, the Mauna Loa and the Kilauea. These giants are located in the Volcanoes National Park on the south side of the island. An 18-kilometre-long car ride will bring you over the Crater Rim drive, passed the desert area, trough the rain forest to the top of the crater of the Kilauea volcano. There are multiple hiking routes which lead through the black landscapes and landscapes which are rich in flora and where the steam comes through the ground. It is also a possibility to go to places where the lava enters the sea, it is advisable to inform about these places locally.
The national park is also home to many unique animal species, like the flesh-eating caterpillar, the Happy face spider, the Hawaiian Honeycreeper, and a bird species that comes in all the colours of the rainbow. The endangered Honu ea turtle does still live on the beach of Punalu’u Beach, which is a black volcanic beach. Something that is absolutely unique on this island is the green beach, there are only two green beaches in the entire world. The other green beach is located on the Galapagos island. In addition to all these unique sights you can also find many water falls in Hawaii, the most well-known water fall is the Akaka Falls.
Oahu
Oahu is the most touristic island of Hawaii. The many hotels and resorts are closely located to a lot of hiking trails which will lead you into the rain forest. In the winter the North coast changes into a surfing paradise, with 10-meter-high waves. Surfers and windsurfers from all over the globe come here to surf. This island also offers the real daredevils the opportunity to swim with the sharks. One of the prettiest beaches in the world, the Lanikai Beach, is also located on this island. Lastly, the capital city, Honolulu is located on the island and Oahu is home to the American fleet of the Pacific Ocean; Pearl Harbor.
Maui
One of the most popular volcanoes on Hawaii is the Haleakala on Maui. The Haleakala volcano (loosely translated: house of the sun) is being protected by the goddess of the Pele volcano. Locals claim that whoever tries to take a piece of volcano back home with them will receive a massive amount of bad luck from her, you are warned! The 55 kilometres long mountain road will bring you to the top of the crater, which is 3 kilometres high. At sunrise and sunset, the view from this place is spectacular, and at night the clear sky allows you a look of the stars in the firmament. Hana is a lovely and deserted from the rest of the island. You can reach Hana by a winding road, which leads straight through marvellous green nature, past the turquoise sea and many waterfalls. Something you can’t miss when you visit Maui is the moon landscape from Haleakala Crater, which is located in a national park with the same name, and the black lava beaches. Another wonderful way to enjoy the water is by going whale watching. This is possible in the months December through April. Special whale watching boat tours leave from the harbour Lahaina. Although it is also possible to see the whales from the coast of the beaches Kaanapali, Kihei and Wailea.
Kauai
Kauai is the most untouched island of Hawaii, it is an exotic gem. The mountainous coast and the magical beaches of Na Pali are known as some of the prettiest in the world. This island has multiple natural wonders, like the Kalalau Valley known because of the many pictures and wallpapers it is used for; the Wailua river with her beautiful water fall; Waimea Canyon is very impressive as well; and then we haven’t even talked about Fern Grotto, Shipwrecks Beach and Kalihiwai Beach. All of these show how unique this island truly is. The downside is the rain fall on this island. In August the rain fall is not as bad as the other months, making this the best time to go hiking on one of the hiking trails. The nature here is breath taking, untouched beaches and green mountains all around. You can find multiple water falls in the mountains. The Waimea Canyon, Grand Canyon and the Pacific Ocean are beautiful hiking trails you can follow. A wide gap runs straight through Kauai and is 900 metres deep at some places. The earth is red, which came to be this way by the erosion. The erosion happened because of the tremendous amount of water coming from Alaka Swamps, which is one of the wettest places on earth.
Have you figured it out? What is the most beautiful island to visit or would you like to visit multiple islands or maybe even all of them?
