Thanksgiving

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November the Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.

This year the holiday will be on November 28th. This is a very special day for many Americans. Thanksgiving has been an official holiday since 1863. The word thanksgiving already explains the meaning of the day, which is giving thanks. It is about counting your blessings and spending time with the people you love. Most people have this day off, and they spend it making amazing dishes which will be eaten at the end of the day with family and friends. And of course, we can’t forget the turkey! Something you also can not miss if you decide to spend the day in New York.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

This day is celebrated with one of the largest parades in New York, named the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, in Manhattan. Envision spectacular music performances, amazing floats and gigantic balloons in all kind of shapes. Right after the parade another event starts, which is the National Dog Show. If you decide to do something really special for thanksgiving you can choose to make reservations for a boat tour with dinner. This way you can enjoy the gorgeous skyline of Manhattan while the chef makes you an fantastic dinner.

Black Friday

The day after thanksgiving is called Black Friday, it is tradition to start buying your Christmas presents on this day. And where better to do this than in New York City? Since this tradition is so popular you must be able to imagine that traveling to The United States around this time is very busy. Especially in The United States it is very crowded! There is almost no option of getting through the city with a car or taxi, because of the parade that starts in the morning. The best way to get around the city is by metro (which uses an adapted time schedule on this day) or on foot. Make sure you book your tickets on time!
